Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body to support regulation, balance, and healing.
From a traditional perspective, acupuncture works along meridians—pathways through which the body communicates internally. From a modern perspective, research suggests acupuncture may influence the nervous system, circulation, connective tissue, and inflammatory processes within the body.
It is commonly used to support a wide range of concerns, including pain, stress, sleep, digestion, hormonal health, fertility, and skin health.

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine—significantly thinner than those used for blood tests or injections. Most people experience little to no pain during treatment. Sensations can vary between individuals and may include warmth, heaviness, tingling, dull pressure, or a mild ache around certain points. Treatments are designed to be gentle, grounding, and deeply restorative.

Your first session begins with a comprehensive consultation where we explore the broader picture of your health, including areas such as sleep, digestion, stress, energy, menstrual health, skin, and lifestyle.
From there, a treatment plan is developed specifically for you. Needles are placed carefully at selected acupuncture points and you will then rest for approximately 20–40 minutes. Depending on your presentation, treatments may also incorporate modalities such as cupping, electroacupuncture, moxibustion, LED therapy, or gua sha.
Each session is designed to support both immediate relief and longer-term change.

This is very common, and always approached with care. Treatments can be adapted to suit your comfort level, and needles are inserted gently and gradually throughout the session.
Many people who are initially nervous about acupuncture are surprised by how relaxing the experience feels. Your treatment will always move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

Acupuncture is a safe and low-risk treatment when performed by a qualified practitioner. Some people may experience mild side-effects following treatment, including temporary soreness, bruising, fatigue, light-headedness, or emotional release. These effects are typically short-lived and often reflect the body adjusting and responding to treatment.

Acupuncture is a skin piercing technique, and like all other skin piercing techniques carries a risk of cross infection. In the case of acupuncture, these risks are minimized:
• Needles are all single use, sterilized and disposable.
• The practitioner follows strict guidelines developed by leading experts in the field of skin piercing.
You can reduce the risks and side effects of treatment further by ensuring your practitioner knows anything about you that might increase the risk of treatment, such as history of fits, fainting, funny turns, a pacemaker or electrical implant, a bleeding disorder, use of anti-coagulant medication like warfarin or damaged heart valves. A well trained practitioner will take account of these in their treatment plan.

Eat a light meal a couple of hours before treatment. Wear loose clothing, which is easy to pull up or to one side, to reduce the need to get completely undressed.

Drink plenty of water to aid in rebalancing and hydrating of the body. Most people find acupuncture relaxing and often feel very calm after a treatment. You may feel a little tired or sleepy and should take this into account if you are planning to drive or use heavy machinery straight after your treatment. You should refrain from vigorous exercise after treatment and, ideally, give yourself a little time to rest. It is also advisable not to drink alcohol for several hours after treatment.
